MUSCAT, JUNE 9
The training workshop entitled “Enhancing the Export Performance of Omani Institutions” was launched today, organised by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), represented by “Oman Exports”, in cooperation with the International Trade Centre (ITC).
The workshop is attended by 30 participants from more than 25 Omani exporting companies. It is held within the framework of ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening the international competitiveness of medium and large companies and institutions in the Sultanate of Oman; and enabling them to keep pace with the growing demands of competition in global value chains.
The three-day workshop aims to equip Omani businesses with the essential concepts and tools needed to enhance their competitiveness in international markets, as well as to introduce them to the methodologies and programmes adopted by the International Trade Centre in the field of export performance development and institutional efficiency improvement.
The workshop also represents a preliminary step towards launching a comprehensive and specialised technical programme expected to be implemented in the coming period, following a series of preparatory activities and field studies carried out by ITC experts in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. The goal is to design a training programme that aligns with the needs and operational characteristics of Omani institutions and contributes to addressing the challenges they face while capitalising on available opportunities to strengthen their presence in global markets.
The workshop targets the following sectors and products: food and beverage manufacturing, plastics and plastic products, rubber and rubber products, chemical industries and related industries, metals and metal products, pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical preparations, as well as Omani frankincense products, dates and date products, electrical conductors and iron and steel products and agricultural products.
Lubna bint Mohammed al Harthy, Director of the Export Development Department at the Ministry, said the training programme is structured around three key pillars designed to strengthen the export capabilities and global competitiveness of Omani enterprises. These include enhancing export readiness through strategic planning and market assessment; improving product packaging to boost competitiveness, ensure compliance and reduce waste; and promoting continuous improvement by optimising internal operations, addressing challenges related to costs, logistics, compliance and cash flow; and adopting modern approaches to drive sustainability and performance enhancement.
