Oman's national youth indoor handball team continues its intensive training programme in preparation for the 19th Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship, scheduled to take place in China from July 15 to 27. Under the guidance of Tunisian coach Kamel Hdidar, the technical staff is focusing on enhancing the players’ physical and technical readiness through daily training sessions and friendly matches aimed at strengthening team cohesion and evaluating player performance ahead of the continental event.
As part of its ongoing efforts to develop the sport, the Oman Handball Association, represented by the Athlete Development Centers Committee, will organise a coaching course for trainers from seven athlete development centers: Seeb, Al Shabab, Nizwa, Yanqul, Ibri, Oman Club and Sohar. The course will be held from June 14 to 16 at Oman Club’s sports hall.
The course will be led by Tunisian coach Kamel Hdidar, technical supervisor of the Athlete Development Centres Project and the national indoor handball teams. It will include a series of theoretical lectures and practical sessions designed to enhance coaching capabilities and improve technical standards. The initiative forms part of the Association’s strategy to unify training methodologies and strengthen technical work within development centers, ultimately contributing to the preparation of future generations of players capable of supporting national teams and clubs.
Meanwhile, Oman’s youth team recorded an encouraging 33-21 victory over Yemen in a friendly match held at Oman Club’s sports hall as part of its preparations for the Asian Championship.
The first half was closely contested, with both teams exchanging control and capitalising on their opportunities effectively. The balanced performance from both sides resulted in a 16-16 draw at half-time.
In the second half, however, Oman displayed a completely different level of performance after coach Hdidar introduced several tactical and technical adjustments. The players executed the game plan efficiently, leading to significant improvements in both defensive and offensive play.
Oman gradually extended its lead through strong performances across all positions and eventually secured a convincing 33-21 victory, winning by a margin of 12 goals.
The match marked Oman’s first friendly fixture of the current preparation phase and provided the coaching staff with a valuable opportunity to assess the players’ technical and physical condition while identifying areas that require further development ahead of the upcoming competition.
Both teams are preparing for important continental assignments, with Oman set to compete in the Asian Youth Championship in China, while Yemen will participate in the Asian Handball Federation Cup in Bangladesh from June 9 to 15.
