MUSCAT: The Royal Hospital has successfully performed the Sultanate of Oman’s first nipple-sparing mastectomy operation of its kind by using 3D endoscopy through a single surgical incision.
The surgery was paired with immediate breast tissue reconstruction and sentinel lymph node biopsy. It was made for a 40-year-old woman who had been suffering left breast cancer.
The operation, conducted in accordance with the latest global practices and minimally invasive norms, lasted about 3 hours, after which the patient was able to recover successfully.
The accomplishment was in pursuance of Royal Hospital’s ongoing efforts to adopt modern medical technologies and develop specialised services. It enhanced Oman’s position as advanced healthcare hub and affirmed national talents’ ability to localise the most advanced global medical and surgical practices.
This unprecedented medical record serves as a milestone in the achievements of the health sector in Oman and adds momentum to the promotion of the country’s status at regional and international levels. — ONA
