Gas output in Oman reaches18.7 billion cubic metres

MUSCAT: Oman’s natural gas production, including domestic output and imports, rose by 4.6 per cent to 18.77 billion cubic metres by the end of April 2026, compared with 17.94 billion cubic metres during the corresponding period of 2025, reflecting continued growth in demand from key economic sectors.
According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), associated gas production increased by 1.3 per cent to 4.13 billion cubic metres, up from 4.08 billion cubic metres a year earlier. Non-associated gas production, including imports, recorded stronger growth of 5.6 per cent, reaching 14.64 billion cubic metres compared with 13.86 billion cubic metres during the same period last year.
Natural gas consumption continued to rise across major sectors of the economy. Consumption by industrial projects increased by 5.8 per cent to 9.87 billion cubic metres, compared with 9.32 billion cubic metres by the end of April 2025.
Demand from electricity generation plants posted the strongest growth, rising by 12.7 per cent to 4.91 billion cubic metres, up from 4.36 billion cubic metres in the corresponding period of last year, reflecting higher power requirements across the Sultanate of Oman.
Meanwhile, gas consumption in oil fields, including losses, meter discrepancies and shrinkage factors, declined by 5.7 per cent to 3.93 billion cubic metres, compared with 4.17 billion cubic metres a year earlier. Gas usage in industrial areas, including industrial estates as well as operations linked to Oman Mining Company and Oman Cement Company, fell sharply by 30.7 per cent to 63 million cubic metres from 90.9 million cubic metres recorded during the same period in 2025.
The latest figures underscore the growing role of natural gas in supporting Oman’s industrial expansion and electricity generation requirements while highlighting shifts in consumption patterns across different sectors of the economy. — ONA
