MUSCAT: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) will conduct a seminar on freelancing on June 9, Tuesday.
The seminar aims to highlight the regulatory and legislative environment for freelancing and review the programmes, initiatives, and incentives offered to independent workers. Several government agencies, supporting institutions, and freelancers will take part in the seminar.
The seminar will discuss challenges and opportunities associated with freelancing, which is experiencing rapid growth both locally and globally, in light of digital transformation and the rapid development of the digital economy.
The seminar will discuss the role of digital platforms in supporting and developing freelancing, the skills required for success in this field, and will also showcase Omani success stories and experiences, as well as the future opportunities offered by digital transformation and the knowledge-based economy.
An interactive workshop will be held on the sidelines of the seminar, bringing participants together in working groups to discuss challenges and practical proposals for developing freelancing.
Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that organising a seminar on freelancing stems from the OCCI’s commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at enhancing labour market flexibility and empowering Omani talents to capitalise on the opportunities offered by the digital economy and modern work models.
He emphasised that freelancing has become a significant contributor to the national economy and an effective tool for generating self-income and fostering a culture of initiative and innovation.
He noted that the OCCI views freelancing as a promising path that keeps pace with the rapid transformations in global labour markets. It contributes to leveraging national skills and expertise and opens new horizons for young people and entrepreneurs to offer their services and access local, regional, and global markets through digital platforms. — ONA
