MINSK: Oman and Belarus have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in agriculture, food production and food security as the two countries seek to strengthen economic ties and unlock new investment opportunities.
The discussions took place during a meeting in Minsk between Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Yuri Gorlov, Belarusian Minister of Agriculture and Food.
The two sides reviewed the growing bilateral relationship and explored opportunities for collaboration across agriculture, livestock, fisheries and food industries. Discussions also focused on attracting investment, exchanging expertise and adopting advanced technologies to enhance agricultural productivity and food security in both countries.
Officials highlighted the importance of building stronger partnerships between businesses and institutions in Oman and Belarus, noting that closer cooperation could contribute to sustainable development goals while supporting the long-term resilience of food supply chains.
Both ministers stressed the value of continued coordination, technical exchanges and reciprocal visits to advance joint initiatives and deepen cooperation in sectors of mutual interest. They also welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations and expressed their commitment to expanding economic and investment links.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Hamoud bin Salem al Tuwaih, Oman’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation and non-resident Ambassador to Belarus; Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and head of the Omani trade delegation; and Dr Abdullah bin Masoud al Harthi, Honorary Consul of Belarus to Oman.
As part of his visit to Belarus, Al Habsi also toured the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation, where he was briefed on the organisation’s operations and its contribution to agricultural development and food security.
The minister and accompanying delegation inspected production facilities and biotechnology applications used in feed manufacturing and agricultural inputs, gaining insights into advanced technologies that support higher productivity and value creation within the agricultural sector.
The visit reflects Oman’s efforts to identify new partnership and investment opportunities in biotechnology and agri-food industries, while encouraging knowledge transfer and technological cooperation. Such initiatives are expected to support the Sultanate of Oman’s broader food security objectives and strengthen collaboration with international partners in sustainable agricultural development. — ONA
