MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) has signed two usufruct agreements to develop a 4-star resort in Al Hamra in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate and a 5-star hotel in Mirbat in Dhofar Governorate, with a total investment exceeding RO 12 million.
The agreements were signed on behalf of the Ministry by Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidy, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, and by representatives of the investing companies.
The projects form part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to boost investment in the tourism sector, support economic diversification, and enhance the Sultanate of Oman’s tourism infrastructure. They are also expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen tourism services across the country.
Officials noted that the initiatives align with broader national goals to expand hotel capacity, improve visitor experiences, and promote sustainable tourism development in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Amira bint Iqbal Al Lawatia, Director General of Tourism Development at the Ministry, said the agreements reflect a continued investment programme aimed at maximising the economic and social impact of tourism projects across the Sultanate.
She added that the new developments will help showcase Oman’s natural and tourism assets, particularly in Al Hamra and Mirbat, which are known for their mountains, valleys, and adventure tourism potential.
The first agreement, signed with Al Zahra Hospitality Services Company, covers the development of a 4-star resort in Al Hamra over an area of 25,000 square metres, with an investment of approximately RO 9.87 million. The project is expected to offer an integrated tourism experience combining adventure and relaxation, while promoting sustainable practices.
The second agreement, signed with Zillal Tourism Company, will see the development of a 5-star hotel in Mirbat on a 55,000 square metre site, with an investment of around RO 3 million. The hotel will include 121 rooms, restaurants, cafés, conference facilities, swimming pools and recreational amenities.
The projects are expected to further strengthen Oman’s tourism sector and diversify accommodation offerings across key destinations. - ONA
