JAALAN BANI BU ALI: The waterfront development project at Al Ashkharah Beach in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali has achieved more than 55 per cent completion, marking steady progress on one of the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate’s key sustainable tourism initiatives.
The project is being developed as a major recreational and tourism destination, aimed at enhancing the coastal appeal of the wilayat and supporting domestic tourism growth in line with Oman Vision 2040 objectives.
Maryam bint Abdullah al Alawi, a civil engineer at the Al Sharqiyah South Municipality, confirmed that the project is progressing according to schedule and in line with approved technical standards and modern specifications. It is being implemented over an area exceeding 100,000 square metres, with a built-up area of approximately 1,130 square metres.
She said the total cost of the project is estimated at RO 5.8 million and includes a range of integrated facilities such as a 1,800-metre cycling track, a parallel pedestrian walkway, landscaped green spaces, children’s play areas, seating zones, public amenities, restaurants and cafés, as well as a control room, watchtower and service facilities.
She added that the development represents a qualitative leap in upgrading the Al Ashkharah waterfront, introducing a modern urban vision that enhances visitor experience through well-planned recreational and service infrastructure. Once completed, the project is expected to add significant tourism and economic value to the governorate while improving public amenities and supporting coastal development.
Waterfront and tourism park projects across Al Sharqiyah South, including Sur, Al Haddah, Al Suwaih and Asilah in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, continue to form part of a broader strategy to strengthen tourism infrastructure and diversify visitor experiences across the governorate. — ONA
