MUSCAT, MAY 25
Oman national football team head coach Tarik Sektioui has announced a 28-member squad for the Reds’ overseas training camp in Indonesia from May 29 to June 9 as part of preparations for a busy period of Gulf and continental commitments.
The camp forms an important stage in Oman’s build-up towards the Gulf Cup “Khaleeji 27”, scheduled for September, and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027, alongside other upcoming Asian assignments. The Moroccan coach is looking to raise the team’s technical and physical readiness while giving more room for competition across different positions.
The squad features a blend of experienced players and emerging names, reflecting Sektioui’s wider plan to build a team capable of competing in the medium and long term. Several regular members of the national side have retained their places, while several young players who impressed in domestic competitions have also been included.
The squad includes: Ibrahim al Mukhaini, Ahmed al Rawahi, Fayez al Rashaidi, Ibrahim al Rajhi, Harib al Saadi, Mohsin al Ghassani, Khalid al Buraiki, Khalid al Ghatrifi, Abdullah Fawaz, Ahid al Mashaikhi, Abdulsalam al Shukaili, Hatim al Roushdi, Hussain al Shahri, Musab al Maamari, al Munthir al Alawi, Ghanim al Habshi, Ahmed al Khamisi, Zahir al Aghbari, Yousef al Maliki, Esam al Subhi, Ahmed al Kaabi, Mohammed al Ghafri, Musab al Shaqsi, Nasser al Rawahi, Jameel al Yahmadi, Amjad al Harthy, Issa al Naabi and Sultan al Marzouq.
During the camp, Oman are expected to play two friendly matches. The Reds will meet Indonesia on June 5 at Jakarta International Stadium before facing Mozambique on June 9, with Sektioui set to assess the players’ readiness and test different tactical options.
The camp comes ahead of a demanding Gulf Cup campaign, where Oman have been drawn in a strong group alongside Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait. The Reds will open their campaign against Iraq on September 23, before meeting hosts Saudi Arabia on September 26 and Kuwait on September 29.
Sektioui had earlier said that all Gulf teams would enter the tournament with equal chances, stressing that Oman would compete with confidence and ambition. “We will compete in our own way and with the ambitions of our fans,” he said, adding that the Gulf Cup would be an important test before bigger challenges.
Oman are also preparing for the AFC Asian Cup 2027, where they will compete in Group A with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Palestine. The Reds will begin against Kuwait on January 8, 2027, face Saudi Arabia on January 12 and conclude the group stage against Palestine on January 17.
The coming period is expected to give the technical staff a clearer picture of the squad’s depth as Sektioui continues to shape a balanced group combining experience, discipline and youthful ambition.
