Bilateral relations between Oman and Azerbaijan expanding

 

Muscat: The bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Sultanate of Oman in trade, transportation, and logistics are rapidly expanding, and are further accentuated by the opening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Muscat in late 2025, according to the diplomatic mission in the Sultanate.

Both nations are deepening cooperation in various areas bolstered by recent political consultations and visa-free travel agreements for diplomatic and special passport holders.

Speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of the independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Azerbaijan recently, Ambassador Rashad lsmayilov said that the bilateral relations will only reach heights in various spheres of the economy and diplomacy.

“The bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Sultanate of Oman were established in 1992 and have since been based on the principles of mutual respect, and both sides are committed to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various political, economic and humanitarian fields,” he said.

The reception, attended by Anwar bin Hilal bin Hamdoun al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion as the guest of Honour, and attended by various undersecretaries and other diplomats, conveyed that notable development in the bilateral relations was the outcome of the efforts in recent years, contributing to the creation of promising opportunities for economic and trade cooperation, as well as strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between the two friendly countries.

“Both countries are focused on developing joint economic projects and are actively exploring ways to connect the Port of Baku and the Alat Free Economic Zone with Omani hubs like the SOHAR Port and Freezone,” he noted.

To facilitate official and diplomatic movement, a mutual visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports was ratified by Royal Decree No 97/2025

The reception was also attended by a number of officials in the Sultanate of Oman, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, as well as a number of officials from Foreign Ministry.
