Oman at Global Research Council meeting in Bangkok

BANGKOK: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Research and Innovation Authority, participated in the 14th Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC), hosted by the Thai capital, Bangkok, which will continue until May 22.
The Sultanate of Oman's delegation to the meeting was headed by Dr Saif bin Abdullah al Haddabi, Chairman of the Research and Innovation Authority (RIA).
Al Haddabi participated as a keynote speaker in a working session on Open Science applications, during which he highlighted the Sultanate of Oman's efforts in empowering young researchers and building a sustainable research ecosystem that integrates local knowledge into the production of scientific knowledge.
The Omani delegation also participated in the regional meeting for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This meeting featured a report on a study of bilateral and multilateral collaborations, highlighting the most prominent research partnership opportunities within the region.
On the sidelines of the Council's proceedings, the delegation took part in a series of side sessions and meetings with the heads of scientific research authorities from the Global South. These discussions focused on enhancing funding, building capacity and supporting curiosity-driven research. Additionally, they reviewed the preparations for the Council's annual meeting in 2027, which is scheduled to be held in Cape Town, South Africa. - ONA
