MUSCAT: The Oman Committee for Skating Sports confirmed that the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in this year’s 'Global Girls Game' was officially recognised as part of the record for the 'Most host countries for the same Ice Hockey exhibition match event', a title awarded to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) on March 9, 2026, entering the coveted list of Global Guinness World Records achievement.
Oman Girls Ice Hockey was among 43 countries worldwide that simultaneously hosted matches for the 2026 edition of the IIHF's Global Girls Game, an initiative designed to showcase female hockey and introduce the sport to new players.
Oman Girls Ice Hockey team members, captain Al Firdous al Kindi, assistant captain Khulood Ambosaidi, and the rest of the squad, which include Dalal Ambosaidi, Zina al Jabri, Layal al Ajmi, Aysal Waheed, Erileck Cameron, Mariangel Delgado, Aya al Mahrouqi, Sara Bahkit, Khadija al Riyami, Fatma al Hajri, Ira Amit, Fajr al Amri , Mawadda, Nahla, Maryam al Siddiqi, Sharifa al Aufi, Savana al Alawi, Nawar al Busaidy and Lilas, along with their coaches and officials, celebrated the recognition as a milestone for team as well as for the country.
The achievement highlights Oman’s dedication towards girls’ sports, especially ice hockey, standing alongside leading hockey countries on a world record stage. It also reinforces the value of the IIHF’s Global Girls Game, the vehicle for global unity and official recognition.
PROUD MOMENT
Saud al Aufi, Chairman of the Oman Skating Sports Committee, the official governing body responsible for the development and oversight of the women’s ice hockey team, extended his congratulations to the squad and the nation.
'This is a proud moment for Oman. To be counted among 43 nations in an official Guinness World Record is a testament to the dedication and spirit of our women's ice hockey team. They have shown that Omani women can compete, belong and be celebrated on the world stage.'
The committee extended its sincere appreciation to head coach Gregory Cameron and assistant coach Ibrahim Mohammady, for their technical leadership and dedication to player development.
