MoI to release Dr Thoms documentary on Wednesday

 

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Information will celebrate the release of a documentary titled ‘Dr Thoms (Al Dakhtar Thoms)’ at a screening to be held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Information Theater.

The event will be attended by a select group of media professionals, intellectuals, historians as well as cultural content creators.

The film documents the life of the American doctor, Wells Thomas, and his connection to the history of healthcare in the Sultanate of Oman. It combines historical narrative with reenacted dramatic scenes, archive footage. The filming took place in the Sultanate of Oman and the United States of America (USA).

The documentary traces the beginnings of Dr Thoms’ medical profession who became known locally as Al Dakhtar Thoms. It highlights his significant contributions to medical and humanitarian work. It also documents a part of the history of the social and healthcare transformations which took place in the Sultanate of Oman at the time.

The Ministry of Information seeks to enhance national documentary production, which offers a visual interpretation of modern Omani history, combining academic research, creative storytelling, and contemporary digital technologies. The ministry has launched a series of documentaries, books, and programmes, including the three-part documentary series ‘House of Wonders’ and the programme ‘We Have a Legacy’ on Oman TV.

The Ministry of Information’s Ayn Platform also features a collection of audiobooks and audiovisual programmes about Omani history. The ministry is also working on a project to produce a feature film about the historic voyage of the Omani ship Sultana.
