IBRA: The Environment Department in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate launched an initiative to raise awareness about the ‘Plant Oman 2050’ project at Ibra Public Park on Monday.
The initiative is part of the national campaign aimed at planting 10 million trees, in line with the environmental sustainability goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The programme included planting a number of native and fruit-bearing saplings, a symbolic step to promote a culture of afforestation and environmental conservation. Several government agencies, private sector institutions, volunteering teams and members of the local community took part in the initiative.
Shaikh Hamed bin Khalifa al Abri, Wali of Ibra, stressed the importance of enhancing joint efforts to preserve the environment, saying that planting trees is a true investment for future generations.
Eng Said bin Nasser al Abdali, Director of the Environment Department in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, explained that the project aims to combat desertification, increase green spaces and raise awareness about the importance of native trees. - ONA
