Al Dhahirah concludes third School Skate Ball Championship

MUSCAT, MAY 8
Al Dhahirah Governorate celebrated the conclusion of the third School Skate Ball Championship, organised by the Ibri Team, representing the Oman Skating Sports Committee, in cooperation with the School Sports Committee at the Directorate General of Education in Al Dhahirah. The closing ceremony was held at the Ibri Club Hall following several days of competitive action and strong student participation.
The event was held under the auspices of Nadhira bint Ahmed al Harthy, Chairperson of the Oman School Sports Association and was attended by several officials and education figures, including Zuwaina al Mazrouei, Director-General of Education in Al Dhahirah, Saud bin Nasser al Aufi, Chairman of the OSSC and Salim al Ismaili, head of the Ibri Skating Team.
The championship drew 280 male and female students representing 16 teams from schools across the governorate, underlining the steady growth of skate ball at the school level and the increasing interest in the sport among students.
In the Cycle One boys’ competition, Talae Al Ilm School claimed first place, followed by Al Salif School in second, while Al Masarrat School finished third. In the Cycle One girls’ category, Khadraa Ibri School took the title, with Al Salif School placing second and Talae Al Ilm School securing third. In the Cycle Two boys’ division, Ammar bin Yasir School finished on top.


The individual awards also highlighted standout performances across the championship. In the Cycle One boys’ category, Saud bin Faisal al Yaqoubi of Talae Al Ilm School won the top-scorer award, Majid al Mundhiri of Al Salif School was named best player and Ahmed al Ghafri of Talae Al Ilm School received the best goalkeeper award. In the girls’ category, Mira bint Abdulmalik al Yaqoubi of Khadraa Ibri School was crowned top-scorer, Dhabiya al Sukaiti of Al Salif School was named best player and Farah bint Mohammed al Maqbali of Khadraa Ibri School won best goalkeeper. In the Cycle Two boys’ division, Mishari bin Fahd al Yaqoubi of Ammar bin Yasir School finished as top-scorer, Nawaf bin Ahmed al Shandoudi was named best player and Amjad bin Ahmed al Yaqoubi of Ammar bin Yasir School claimed the best goalkeeper award.
GAINING STRENGTH
Speaking on the occasion, Saud al Aufi, OSSC Chairman, said the third edition reflected how the championship continues to gain strength year after year and has now reached a stage where it deserves to be expanded across Oman. He noted that preparations are already underway to stage a similar tournament in Muscat in cooperation with the school sports sector, adding that the committee is also planning further summer programmes with its affiliated academies as well as a regional skate ball championship.
For her part, Nadhira al Harthy, described the final as a promising sign for a sport that is still relatively new in Oman. She said the turnout of 280 skaters from Cycle One and Cycle Two schools reflected the game’s growing appeal and praised the partnership between the OSSC and the school sports authorities in Al Dhahirah. She added that such cooperation creates the right pathway to nurture children and develop them into competitive players, expressing hope that the sport will continue to expand across the Sultanate of Oman.
The closing ceremony also featured a welcome performance by students of Al Salif School, before the patron honoured the winning schools, outstanding students and organisers. The championship ultimately reinforced its value as a platform for talent discovery and school-level competition, with this year’s edition marked by strong performances, fair play and a high level of enthusiasm throughout.
