Oman U18 beach volley team opens with loss against Thailand

Oman’s national Under-18 beach volleyball team began its campaign in the Asian Under-18 Beach Volleyball Championship, currently taking place in Uzbekistan from May 6 to 10, with a 2-0 defeat against Thailand in their opening Group D match held on Thursday.
The match proved to be a difficult challenge for the Omani side against one of Asia’s strongest beach volleyball teams. Oman’s players delivered a competitive performance despite the difference in experience and exposure, but Thailand managed to secure the victory in straight sets.

The tournament draw placed Oman in Group D alongside Thailand and Singapore, with the national team aiming to achieve positive results and gain valuable international experience in one of the continent’s leading youth beach volleyball events.
Oman will return to action on Friday, against Singapore in a crucial match as the team looks to bounce back from the opening defeat and keep its hopes alive of advancing to the next stage of the championship.

Upon the team’s arrival in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, the Omani delegation received an official welcome from Wafa bint Jabr bin Nasser al Busaidy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Uzbekistan, at the embassy headquarters in the presence of delegation officials.
The ambassador welcomed the national team delegation and stressed the importance of representing Oman proudly at continental sporting events, wishing the players success throughout the championship.

At the conclusion of the visit, Yousuf bin Mohammed al Badwawi, member of the Oman Volleyball Association Board and head of the delegation, presented a commemorative gift to the ambassador in appreciation of her warm reception and continued support for the team.
The participation comes as part of the Oman Volleyball Association’s efforts to develop youth national teams and provide players with opportunities to compete against different Asian schools of beach volleyball. The championship features some of the continent’s top youth teams and serves as an important platform for developing emerging talent and enhancing technical experience for the future.
The technical staff hopes the tournament will contribute to building a promising generation capable of representing Omani volleyball with distinction in the coming years, amid the growing development of beach volleyball across Asia.
