Oman records over 23,000 marriages, 4,200 divorces in 2025

Muscat: The total number of marriage and divorce certificates issued by notary public departments across Oman’s governorates recorded a noticeable increase in 2025, according to the latest official figures.
Data shows that 23,117 marriage certificates were issued in 2025, compared to 17,896 in 2024 and 14,716 in 2023, reflecting steady growth over the three-year period. Divorce certificates also rose to 4,208 in 2025, up from 4,122 in 2024 and 3,828 in 2023.
Muscat topped all governorates, recording 6,651 marriage certificates and 1,220 divorce cases in 2025, maintaining its position as the highest contributor nationwide. The figures mark a significant increase from 4,868 marriages and 1,161 divorces in 2024.
Dhofar Governorate ranked second with 2,462 marriage certificates and 716 divorces in 2025, followed by North al Batinah Governorate, which recorded 3,753 marriages and 705 divorces.
Al Dakhiliyah Governorate reported 2,425 marriages and 314 divorces, while South al Batinah Governorate registered 2,683 marriages and 344 divorces.
In the eastern governorates, South al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded 1,495 marriages and 263 divorces, while North al Sharqiyah Governorate posted 1,440 marriages and 263 divorces.
Meanwhile, al Dhahirah Governorate saw 972 marriages and 149 divorces, and al Buraimi Governorate registered 658 marriages and 144 divorces.
Lower figures were recorded in Musandam Governorate with 330 marriages and 26 divorces, and al Wusta Governorate, which reported 248 marriages and 64 divorces.
The data highlights a consistent upward trend in marriage registrations across most governorates, alongside a moderate rise in divorce cases, indicating evolving social dynamics and population growth across Oman.
