Oman population reaches 5.4 million in 2025

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s population reached 5.4 million in 2025, up by 91,500 from a year earlier, according to the latest data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The figures point to steady population growth at a time when urban development, labour market needs and public services remain central to Oman’s long-term planning. Among Omanis, the gender balance remained broadly even, with 101 males for every 100 females. Among expatriates, the ratio stood at 284 males for every 100 females, reflecting the large number of foreign workers employed in sectors such as construction, logistics and services.
Population density rose slightly to 17.3 people per square kilometre, compared with 17.0 a year earlier.
Muscat remained the most densely populated governorate, with 383.1 people per square kilometre, underlining its role as Oman’s main economic and service centre.At the wilayat level, Seeb had the largest number of Omani residents, at about 284,300. Bausher recorded the highest concentration of expatriates, who made up 78.1 per cent of its population.The data also showed different fertility trends. Omani women recorded an average of 2.8 births per woman, compared with 0.7 among expatriate women.Life expectancy for Omanis reached 77.5 years in 2025. The crude birth rate eased to 20.8 births per 1,000 Omanis, from 21.2 in 2024.Health indicators continued to improve, with the crude death rate falling to 2.4 per 1,000 people. Infant mortality declined to 7.4 per 1,000 live births, while mortality among children under five fell to 9.1.The latest figures highlight the demographic trends shaping Oman’s labour market, housing demand, urban planning and service delivery as the country moves ahead with its economic diversification agenda.
