Oman has witnessed a clear and steady development in the sport of golf over the past two years, led by the Vice-Chairman of the Oman Golf Association (OGA), Faiz Mohammad Riyadh. This progress aligns closely with Oman Vision 2040, which emphasises youth empowerment, sporting excellence, and strengthening the Sultanate’s international presence.
The association’s transformation is driven by a structured strategy focused on grassroots development, increased international participation, and improving competitive performance. These pillars have contributed to the growing recognition of Omani golf as an emerging force in the region.
A key highlight of recent years has been the success of Oman’s national teams in regional competitions. The teams achieved a historic milestone by winning the first-ever GCC Under-18 Gold Medal in Saudi Arabia. In addition, Omani golfers have secured multiple podium finishes across junior categories and maintained strong representation in GCC and regional championships, reflecting consistent progress in player development.

Youth development remains at the core of the OGA’s strategy. The association has invested in national training camps, structured coaching programs, and talent identification initiatives across the Sultanate. Participation of young players has significantly increased, supported by long-term athlete development pathways designed to prepare future champions. These efforts directly support the objectives of Vision 2040 in empowering young Omanis through sport.
Oman has also strengthened its position as a regional hub for golf by hosting major events such as the GCC Ladies and Junior Championships in Muscat, alongside other regional tournaments featuring international participation. These events provide valuable exposure for local athletes while enhancing Oman’s visibility on the global sporting map.
In parallel, the OGA has expanded its international partnerships with regional and global golf bodies. These collaborations have created opportunities for Omani players to compete abroad, gain technical experience, and benefit from knowledge exchange programs. Such partnerships are considered essential for accelerating the technical and competitive development of players.

Commenting on the progress, Faiz Mohammad Riyadh, Vice-Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, said:
“Our vision is fully aligned with Oman Vision 2040, focusing on empowering youth, building a sustainable sporting ecosystem, and representing Oman with pride internationally. Golf is no longer just a sport; it has become a platform for national development and global recognition.”
He added: “We are proud of what our players have achieved, but more importantly, we are focused on building a system that produces champions for the future. This is only the beginning of Oman’s journey in golf.”
Women’s golf has also seen notable progress, with increased participation, improved representation in competitions, and inclusive development programs. This aligns with Vision 2040’s emphasis on equality and providing opportunities for all.
Looking ahead, the Oman Golf Association aims to further improve international performance, expand grassroots participation across the country, and continue developing a sustainable golf ecosystem that ensures long-term growth and success.
