Preparation gathers pace for third Land of Peace karate Championship

Muscat: Preparations are progressing at an accelerated pace for the third Land of Peace Open Karate Championship, organised by Shotokan Karate Centre under the supervision of the Oman Karate Committee. The event is witnessing high readiness and growing interest from various sports entities, aiming to deliver a distinguished edition that reflects the rapid development of karate in the region.
The championship is scheduled to kick off on Friday, May 8 at the sports hall of Ahli Sidab Club in the Darsait area, Muscat, with expectations of strong attendance and wide participation from clubs and academies.
The third edition will feature 275 male and female athletes representing 17 clubs and academies from Oman and Saudi Arabia, giving the event a strong competitive edge and notable regional presence. The participants include 177 male and 98 female athletes competing in individual kata across 23 age categories and individual kumite across 44 weight divisions, reflecting the growing participation of female athletes in karate.

The championship will also include team kata and team kumite events, with a total of 28 teams participating (3 in team kata and 25 in team kumite), showcasing diversity and advanced levels of performance.
From an organisational perspective, 32 staff members are involved in managing the event, alongside 43 experienced referees to ensure the competition runs according to the highest officiating standards.
On the sidelines of the championship, a technical lecture for coaches will be held on May 7 at the sports hall of Ahli Sidab Club, addressing key technical aspects applied in the championship to help unify technical understanding and enhance performance.
The organising committee confirmed that all preparations are proceeding according to plan, with a strong emphasis on providing an ideal sporting environment that promotes fair competition and contributes to developing athletes and discovering promising talents.
This championship comes as part of Shotokan Karate Centre’s ongoing efforts to promote and develop karate in the Sultanate of Oman, reinforcing its position as a sport that combines discipline and skill, under the supervision of the Oman Karate Committee.
