Biotechnology Committee holds 15th meeting

 

MUSCAT: The committee tasked with regulating the uses of biotechnology and protecting genetic data in the Sultanate of Oman held its 15th meeting since its inception. The meeting was chaired by Dr Saif Abdullah Al Haddabi, Chairman of the Research and Innovation Authority.
The meeting discussed the progress made in the implementation of a project to draft a National Biotechnology Strategy in Oman.
The committee endorsed the 3rd phase of a project that dealt with priorities of biotechnology sectors. It also approved the work plan for the 4th phase of the project, which will include field studies on enhancing the economic feasibility of some biopiles.
The committee reviewed the recommendations of the Governance Experts Workshop held in February 2026. The workshop saw the participation of representatives of government institutions and private establishments concerned. It was held in preparation for submitting the final draft of the National Biotechnology Strategy before the end of 2026. - ONA
