Nizwa Hospital recognised as 'baby-friendly' facility

The Ministry of Health (MoH) celebrated on Thursday the designation of Nizwa Hospital as a “Baby-Friendly Hospital,” following its successful completion of the final evaluation under the global Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative and fulfillment of all required standards and criteria for accreditation.
This achievement, led by the Directorate General of Health Services in al Dakhiliyah Governorate and represented by Nizwa Hospital, marks the culmination of more than three years of dedicated efforts. These included enhancing maternal and child healthcare services, improving the competencies of healthcare professionals, and raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and its role in improving maternal and child health, in line with national and international standards.
Dr Ali bin Zayed al Busaidi, Director of Nizwa Hospital, highlighted the significance of this accomplishment in advancing the quality of healthcare services in the governorate. He noted that Nizwa Hospital is the fourth hospital in the Sultanate of Oman to receive this title following the reactivation of the programme.
For her part, Dr Jumana bint Ahmad al Abdawani, Director of the Department of Child Health, expressed pride in Nizwa Hospital’s international accreditation as a “Baby-Friendly Hospital.”
She emphasised that the recognition reflects dedicated teamwork and a strong commitment to ensuring every child is given a healthy and safe start in life in accordance with the highest global standards.
The ceremony, held under the patronage of Sheikh Mahmoud bin Rashid al Saadi, Wali of Nizwa, featured a visual presentation on the hospital’s achievements and included the recognition of staff and institutions that contributed to this success.
