MoE clarifies high school diploma equivalency requirements

Muscat: The Ministry of Education (MoE) issued a clarification addressing inquiries from parents regarding the equivalency of the High School Diploma for the current academic year (2025/2026).

The ministry stated that, under the approved equivalency requirements, students are required to provide proof of passing one of the two following tests.

For the SAT I, students must achieve a minimum total score of 800 in both Mathematics and English, in accordance with the International School Qualifications Equivalency Framework document.

For the AP Test, students may qualify through Advanced Placement (AP) tests by passing two subjects of their choice, with a minimum score of 3 in each subject.

The MoE explained that passing one of the aforementioned tests applies to the outcomes of High School Diplomas issued by private schools both within and outside the Sultanate of Oman. However, this requirement does not apply to American schools, whether inside or outside the Sultanate.

The ministry further noted that, starting from the academic year 2026/2027, the requirements outlined in the Guide for the Equivalency of International School Qualifications in the Sultanate of Oman (2025 Edition) will come into effect.
