MUSCAT: The Chinese Embassy in Oman, with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be hosting a media symposium with the theme ‘Regional Peace’ on May 10.
Senior officials from Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, think tank scholars, friends of China-Oman relations, as well as journalists from major Omani and Chinese media outlets, are expected to attend the event. It will be held under the auspices of Lyu Jian, Ambassador of the Republic of China, who will deliver the keynote address.
“Amid the ongoing turbulence in the Middle East, China and Oman have steadfastly advocated resolving disputes through diplomatic negotiations and have actively worked to promote peace and facilitate dialogue. The Chinese Embassy is hosting the media symposium with the theme of ‘Regional Peace’ to unite and amplify the voice of peace, and to uphold the shared conviction that differences between nations should be settled through diplomacy—especially when faced with the critical choice between war and peace,' a spokesperson from the Embassy said.
This new initiative stems from China’s appreciation for Oman’s role as a ‘peace builder’ and its ‘principled neutrality’ in mediating regional conflicts. “Oman acts as a mediator to ease regional tensions and promote dialogue.” China has proposed a four-point plan for restoring peace and stability in the Middle East, which includes upholding mutual respect, ensuring equity and justice, achieving non-proliferation, and jointly fostering collective security, all of which are key principles of the Sultanate of Oman as well.
China and Oman have established a strong strategic partnership focused on promoting regional peace, stability, and development in the Middle East through quiet diplomacy, dialogue, and economic cooperation. The efforts of the two nations are characterised by a shared commitment to non-interference, upholding international law, and fostering a ‘community with a shared future’.
