MUSCAT: The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) will launch its first monthly junior tennis tournament of the year on Tuesday at the tennis courts of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.
The event marks the opening round of a series of monthly tournaments planned by the association for the current season, with strong participation expected from young male and female players across various age categories.
The tournament will be open to several divisions, including mixed under-8, boys and girls under-9, under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-18 categories. The wide range of age groups reflects the association’s efforts to provide regular competitive opportunities for young players and to support the development of tennis at the grassroots level.

The OTA had organised a number of similar tournaments last year, which attracted notable participation from players across different age groups. Building on that response, the association has prepared an integrated calendar for this year’s monthly competitions.
According to the programme, the first tournament will be held this month, followed by the second event in May. The third tournament is scheduled for September, while the fourth and fifth rounds will take place in October and November, respectively.
Winners of the first-place positions will receive ranking points that will be added to their overall records. The association has introduced a ranking-points system for local tournaments, which is expected to support player development and help in selecting talents for national teams representing Oman in regional, continental and international competitions.
