Muscat: The Oman Hockey Association (OHA), headed by Dr Marwan al Juma, OHA Chairman, on Wednesday welcomed an official delegation from the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) in a visit aimed at strengthening joint cooperation and exchanging expertise in the social and sporting fields in a way that serves the groups under the ministry’s care and reinforces the role of sports in comprehensive development.
The visit began with an official reception for the delegation, followed by a tour of the facilities at the Hockey Oman Stadium in Al Amerat, where the guests were introduced to the venue’s infrastructure and technical capabilities, as well as its role in hosting various local and international events and championships.
An official meeting was then held, starting with an introduction to the members of the Board of Directors of the Oman Hockey Association, alongside the presentation of the official delegation from the Ministry of Social Development. The programme also included a visual presentation highlighting the association’s background, its main activities and events throughout the year, and its efforts to develop and expand the game across different segments.
During the meeting, both sides discussed areas of possible cooperation, particularly in designing and implementing sports and community programmes targeting groups under the ministry’s care, as well as organising events and tournaments that provide them with opportunities for active participation. The discussions also focused on identifying sporting talents within these groups, nurturing their abilities and making the best use of their potential.
The two sides underlined that such initiatives can deliver tangible social returns, most notably by promoting community integration, developing skills and improving quality of life.
The meeting also shed light on the programmes and competitions organised by the association for people with disabilities, orphans and children, as part of its continuing commitment to its social role and responsibility in empowering these groups and integrating them into sporting activities.
At the end of the visit, both sides expressed satisfaction with the exchange of ideas and views, stressing the importance of sustaining cooperation and joint efforts in the coming phase to launch qualitative and sustainable initiatives that serve the public interest and further strengthen the role of sport as an effective tool in supporting social development efforts in Oman.
