Oman head coach Sektioui begins with 28-player camp

MUSCAT: Twenty-eight players have been selected by national team head coach Tarik Sektioui for his first training camp in charge of Oman’s senior football team, scheduled to take place in Muscat from April 18 to 23, as part of preparations for upcoming international commitments.
The 28-player squad comprises Fayez al Rushaidi, Ahmed al Rawahi, Bilal al Balushi, Ibrahim al Rajhi, Ahmed al Khamisi, Thani al Rushaidi, Amjad al Harthy, Musab al Shaqsi, Khalid al Ghutairifi, Mohammed Abdulhakim Bait Sabi, Ghanim al Habsi, Ahmed al Kaabi, Turki Bait Rabee, Abdulhafez al Mukhaini, Abdulrahman al Muqimi, Hussein al Shahri, Abdulsalam al Shukaili, Abdullah Fawaz, Mohammed al Ghafri, Harib al Saadi, Sultan Badr al Marzouqi, Ahed al Mashaykhi, Nasser al Rawahi, Fahad al Mukhaini, Zaher al Aghbari, Fahad Bait Obaidan, Abdulmajid al Balushi and Mohammed al Habsi.
The squad does not include overseas-based professionals, who are currently engaged with their respective clubs in international competitions.
Among those absent are Essam al Subhi of Al Quwa al Jawiya (Iraq), Jameel al Yahmadi of Al Karma (Iraq), Mohsin al Ghassani of Bangkok United (Thailand), as well as Abdulrahman al Mushaifri and Khalid al Buraiki of SK Artis Brno (Czech Republic).
Coach Sektioui has maintained an active presence across domestic venues, attending top-tier Jindal League matches and closely observing players’ performances. His field visits reflect a hands-on approach aimed at identifying the most suitable options for the national team setup.
CLASH AGAINST SPAIN
The national team is expected to play two international friendlies during the Fifa window in early June, including a potential high-profile clash against Spain, as part of preparations for upcoming competitions.
Oman will then take part in the 27th Gulf Cup, scheduled to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from September 23 to October 6, marking a key regional test for the squad.
This will be followed by participation in the 10th West Asian Football Federation Championship, set to be hosted by Oman from November 9 to 18, offering further opportunity to build team cohesion.
The AFC Asian Cup 2027 final draw is scheduled to take place on May 9, when Oman will learn their group-stage opponents for the continental tournament to be held in Saudi Arabia.
