The Al Mahamid Endurance Village in the Wilayat of Barka hosted the conclusion of a 100 km night endurance race, organised under the supervision of the Oman Equestrian Federation, with the participation of 83 horses in a highly competitive atmosphere reflecting the growth of the sport in the Sultanate of Oman.
The race was divided into four stages, with the first and second stages covering 30 km each, followed by two final stages of 20 km each. The event was conducted under well organised technical and administrative standards in line with endurance racing regulations.
The competition witnessed intense rivalry, particularly in the final stages where the leading positions were decided, as riders adopted strategic pacing and energy management throughout the race.
Mare 'At Dyal Ring Guns' secured first place after delivering a consistent and impressive performance across all stages. The mare is owned and trained by Mohammed bin Hamoud al Balushi and was ridden by Ahmed bin Darwish al Hammadi.
Second place went to 'Fayjab', owned by Sultanate Stud and trained by Muhannad bin Ibrahim al Balushi, with Abdulrahman bin Khalid al Zadjali in the saddle, following a strong and closely contested performance.
'CLEAR PLAN'
Speaking after the race, trainer Mohammed bin Hamoud al Balushi expressed his delight with the victory, saying: “Praise be to God for this achievement. We followed a clear plan from the beginning, focusing on balanced effort across all stages. This victory is the result of a collective effort from the entire team without exception and I dedicate it to all the assistants who played a key role in achieving it”.
Winning rider Ahmed bin Darwish al Hammadi highlighted the difficulty of the race, stating: “It was a tough race, especially in the final stages, but we maintained the right pace and approached each stage carefully, which helped us secure first place”.
Runner-up rider Abdulrahman bin Khalid al Zadjali noted the intensity of the competition, saying: “We delivered a strong performance and were close to the lead, but races like this are decided by small details. We are satisfied with the result and will aim for better outcomes in the future”.
Only the top two finishers were awarded in this race, emphasising the competitive nature of the event, which focused on showcasing the highest levels of endurance and performance among horses and riders.
The event reflects the ongoing efforts of the Oman Equestrian Federation to support endurance racing and enhance its presence locally through well-organised competitions that contribute to the development of riders and horses in line with international standards.
