Free public transport, e-scooter rides in Oman today

 

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Mwasalat, is organizing the World Transport Day on Friday.

As part of the celebrations, free e-scooter service across selected locations, German University of Technology (GUtech), Muscat Bay Resort, Muttrah Souq, Suroor Village (Samail), Nizwa Souq and Oman Automobile Assocation (OAA).

The free electric bus between Ruwi Bus Station- Muscat-Muttrah will be available between 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday.

The free public transport bus services will be Muscat and Salalah. while intercity transport buses are not included.

The free open-top bus service will be also operated between the National Museum and Muttrah (4-8 pm).

Muscat Municipality is currently integrating a comprehensive traffic study (completed March 2026) to shift the capital away from its 97% private vehicle reliance. Key developments include a proposed 50-km metro connecting Sultan Haitham City to Ruwi, and optimization plans to improve bus coverage and scheduling via Mwasalat.
The municipality is actively seeking to reduce congestion through sustainable mobility solutions and long-term infrastructure planning through 2045.
