Al Batinah North's Al Karama School wins Schools Chess League

MUSCAT: The team of Al Karama Basic Education School from the Al Batinah North Directorate General of Education clinched the title of the Schools Chess League, finishing first in the overall team standings after a series of strong and exciting contests. Al Selaif School Basic Education School from Al Dhahirah secured second place in the championship.
The league was organised by the Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) in cooperation with the Oman Chess Committee (OCC), with the participation of 44 male and female students from Cycle One schools that had qualified from the educational directorates.
The winners were honoured on Tuesday under the auspices of Ahmed bin Darwish al Balushi, OCC Chairman, in the presence of Dr Yaqoub bin Khalfan al Nadabi, Director General of the Directorate General of Scouts, Guides and Student Activities, along with representatives of the OSSA and the participating schools. The ceremony was held at Park Inn Al Athaiba Hotel. The cooperation between the OSSA and the OCC in school chess activities is documented in Ministry of Education coverage.
The league rounds revealed the champions of the current edition following highly competitive encounters that determined the final standings. Ahmed bin Darwish al Balushi crowned the winners as follows: Al Karama School claimed first place, lifting the championship trophy, winning the gold medals and receiving a cash prize of RO 400. Al Selaif School came second and received the silver medals and RO 300, while Lizq School from Al Sharqiyah North finished third, taking the bronze medals and RO 200.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
As for the individual board results, Mohammed al Siyabi of Al Awabi Basic Education School won first place on Board One, followed by Hamdan al Balushi of Al Karama Basic Education School in second, while Omar Ahmed al Sawafi of Al Selaif Basic Education School took third place.
On Board Two, Abdulaziz bin Khamis al Kahali of Al Karama School claimed first place, Sultan al Qurashi of Al Selaif School came second and Abdulaziz al Kindi of Al Buraimi School finished third.
On Board Three, Noor al Maqbali of Al Karama School took first place, Tasneem al Shabibi of Lizq School came second and Aseel al Khawaldi of Dhahar School placed third.
On Board Four, Sarah al Maqbali of Al Karama School won first place, Al Zain Al Hinai of Al Selaif School finished second and Fatima al Shihi of Khasab School came third.
The final stage featured 11 schools representing educational directorates across the governorates. The league aimed to develop students’ mental skills, including concentration, strategic thinking and problem-solving, while also refining their personalities and boosting self-confidence. The preliminary qualifying rounds that preceded the finals also witnessed strong competition at the school level across the educational directorates, with a total of 1,080 male and female students from 284 schools across Oman taking part.
