THUMRAIT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is engaged in harvesting wheat crop in Al Najd agricultural area, as part of the 2025/2026 agricultural season in the Dhofar Governorate. As many as 51 farms participate in harvesting the crop in an area of 6,408 acres. The step reflects a trend of constant expansion in wheat cultivation and the consolidation of the Sultanate of Oman’s food security strategy.
Eng Said bin Musallam al Kathiri, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources in Thumrait, said that the varieties of wheat this season include the types known as Najd 1, Najd 2, Australian wheat, Qurayat 110, Qurayat 226 and Qurayat 308—which all proved to be suitable for environmental conditions in the region.
Al Kathiri told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the harvesting season would continue for two months. He pointed out that the ministry is lending support to farmers by providing modern machines, offering technical support, in addition to enabling Oman Mills Company to receive the output, which is likely to exceed 8,000 tonnes during this season from all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
He affirmed that wheat cultivation in Al Najd area constitutes a major initiative in promoting agricultural sustainability in the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
