Al Ansab - Al Jifnain project 79% complete, due to open in Q3, 2026

Muscat: The Al Ansab - Al Jifnain Dualization Project undertaken by the Muscat Municipality is around 79% complete and is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

The project includes paving of roads, upgrading service roads, converting existing roundabouts into bridges and tunnels, constructing box culverts, creating new intersections, and extending and protecting utilities.

The 2026 Budget has focused on the completion of several important road projects that are vital to the tourism, logistics, and other economic sectors of the Sultanate of Oman.
An amount of RO2.7 billion was allocated for the implementation of about 2,525 kilometers of main and internal roads across governorates.

Of these, the expansion of the Muscat Expressway Road project will begin this year. The roads due for completion are the Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road (Khasab - Dibba -Lima), Sultan Said bin Taimur Road (Adam - Thumrait), and the Sultan Turki bin Said road from Al Kamil Wal Wafi to Sur, Al Ansab- Al Jifnain Road, Raysut - Al Mughsail Road, Harweeb - Mitan Road, and the dual carriageway from Farq in Nizwa to the Heritage District.

The Al Ansab-Al Jifnain road is one of the key road projects aimed at easing the traffic flow, boosting development activities between the governorates of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, and North Al Sharqiyah, and reducing the traffic on the Al Rusayl-Muscat road.
The road will shorten distances and serve adjoining urban installations and quarters aligned to the road. The project involves the construction of a new road with three lanes in each direction, starting from the Falaj Al Sham area in the Wilayat of Baushar up to the intersection of Nizwa road in the Al Jafnain area in the Wilayat of Al Seeb, with a total length of 15 km.

It includes the construction of 4 intersections with bridges and tunnels, an intersection in the Al Awabi area, including the construction of a flyover with three lanes in each direction, with a signalized intersection underneath. Besides, an intersection will be set up before the cement factory, and the existing roundabout will be replaced by a bridge with traffic signals and a tunnel for the main road with three lanes in each direction.

An intersection will come up at the entrance to the Al Misfat Industrial area by constructing a bridge with three lanes in each direction and an intersection with traffic lights below.
Also under construction at the Al Jifnain area is an intersection with a three-lane flyover and traffic lights underneath.
