IBRA: A'Sharqiyah University celebrated its annual day for the 2025/2026 academic year on Thursday, under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information.
Dr Yahya bin Mansour al Wahaibi, Vice-Chancellor of A'Sharqiyah University, affirmed in his speech that the university continues its path with stability and balance, strengthening its position as one of the active institutions in the higher education system in the Sultanate of Oman, and proceeding with the implementation of its 2026-2030 five-year strategy.
He explained that the university achieved remarkable development in several performance indicators, as the number of registered students during the current academic year reached more than 12,000, distributed across 53 academic programmes including Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees.
He stated that the university takes pride in its research capabilities, noting that the percentage of researchers listed in the Stanford University and Elsevier list of the top 2 per cent of scientists worldwide exceeded 5 per cent of the total faculty members, which reflects the quality of human capital at the university.
He added that the university witnessed rapid growth in scientific research support, as the annual growth rate of internal funding for scientific research exceeded 70 per cent, while external funding for scientific research recorded an annual growth of nearly 45 per cent, with support from national funding bodies, most notably the Research and Innovation Authority.
He pointed out that the university's researchers benefit from several research programmes, including the efficiency-based institutional funding programme, the strategic research projects programme, the research cooperation programme with the Sultan Qaboos Scientific Chairs, the scientific publishing support programme, and the training courses support programme in scientific research and innovation.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the chief guest of the occasion honoured outstanding students, staff and strategic partners for the 2025/2026 academic year. He also toured the university campus, during which he was briefed on the services and programmes the university offers within its academic and scientific system for its members. - ONA
