Muscat: Al Rustaq and Sur settled for a 1-1 draw at Al Rustaq Sports Complex in Round 19 of the Jindal League, while Al Nahda were forced to accept a goalless draw against Oman Club at Al Buraimi Sports Complex.
In Rustaq, the two sides entered the match with different aims. The home side were looking for a result to improve their position at the bottom of the table, while Sur were hoping to move further away from the relegation battle.
The opening stages were evenly contested, with both teams showing a willingness to attack. Al Rustaq broke the deadlock through their foreign player Jaira Jov, who made the most of a scoring opportunity to put his side in front. Sur, however, responded quickly and restored parity through Mani Sbeit after a well-constructed move.
After the break, both teams pushed for a second goal. Sur looked more threatening going forward, while Al Rustaq relied on quick counter-attacks to try and regain the lead. Despite a number of attempts from both sides, neither team was able to find the breakthrough, and the match ended all square.
The result left Al Rustaq at the foot of the standings on seven points, while Sur moved to 16 points and remained 11th.
AL NAHDA FIFTH
In Al Buraimi, Al Nahda and Oman Club played out a 0-0 draw in a match full of effort and intensity but lacking the finishing touch.
The draw marked a third successive league stalemate for Al Nahda, who moved to 31 points in fifth place, while Oman Club advanced to 28 points in seventh.
Al Nahda controlled much of the first half, particularly in midfield, and tried to break through Oman Club’s defence with short passing moves and balls played into the channels. Oman Club, on the other hand, relied on counter-attacks, long deliveries and attempts from distance, but without enough precision to make the difference.
The visitors were also threatened from set-pieces, while Al Nahda continued to search for a way through with Hamad al Habsi, Mohammed al Habsi and Amir Alaa leading the attack. Oman Club, however, remained organised at the back and defended well throughout the opening half.
Al Nahda maintained their pressure after the interval and came close when Amir Alaa met a cross from the left, only for the Oman Club goalkeeper to make an important save. The rest of the match saw both teams exchange attacks, though much of the play remained concentrated in midfield.
Both coaches made several substitutions in an effort to add more attacking spark, with Al Nahda increasing the pressure in the closing stages. Four minutes of stoppage time were added, but neither side managed to find a winner.
