MUSCAT: The Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) in coordination with the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) have decided to postpone the Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship in the capital city of Muscat to 2027 due to the current security issues in the region. The event was supposed to take place in June 2026.
The ATTU also confirmed that the current edition of the event will take place in East Asian countries which will be announced later this month to maintain the approved continental calendar as the Union will proceed with the necessary arrangements to relocate the 2026 edition from Muscat city to another member association to be held in June 2026.
The ATTU confirmed full support to the Sultanate of Oman to host the Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship in 2027 and to work closely with the Association to ensure the successful organisation of the event.
The prestigious continental event will bring together Asia’s most promising young table tennis talents for a week of high-level competition. The championship is expected to attract qualifiers from four regional zones, ensuring wide representation and tight competition.
The Central Asia qualification tournament began in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from April 3 to 5. South Asia’s qualification rounds will take place during April. Singapore will organise the South East Asia qualifiers from April 14 to 19, while West Asia’s qualifying event postponed. Teams that secure qualification from these regions will vie in the coming edition of the event to compete for continental honours.
Following the youth event, attention will shift to the 2026 Asian Games, scheduled for September 20 to 28 in Nagoya, Japan. The 2026 Asian Para Games will follow from October 16 to 23, before the curtain falls on the continental season with the 29th ITTF-ATTU Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from October 19 to 25.
