Iran says Strait of Hormuz will not reopen without compensation

Iran has responded to an ultimatum from US President Donald Trump by issuing fresh threats over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global oil and gas shipments.
'The Strait of Hormuz will reopen only when, under a new legal regime, the damages from the imposed war are fully compensated from a portion of the transit toll revenues,' Mehdi Tabatabaei, a communications official in the Iranian president's office, said on X on Sunday.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the strait would not return to its previous state, especially not for the United States and Israel, according to Iranian media. Tehran claims control over the entire passage and plans to introduce a toll system for transit.
Trump has warned Iran it faces attacks on power plants and bridges if it does not comply by 8 pm on Tuesday (0000 GMT Wednesday). In a poston his Truth Social platform, he said: 'Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!'
Tabatabaei said Trump had resorted to insults out of 'desperation and rage,' accusing him of igniting a full-scale war in the region.
Iran's mission to the United Nations said on X that Trump was openly threatening to destroy infrastructure essential to civilians' survival, calling on the international community to act to prevent what it described as war crimes.
