MoCSY honours 550 athletes for 2025 achievements

As many as 550 outstanding athletes were honoured by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) on Wednesday evening during a ceremony held at Sheraton Hotel in Muscat.
The event brought together achievers representing 52 sports institutions and entities, who collectively secured more than 300 medals across 69 international, continental, regional and Arab competitions.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of Shaikh Al Fadhl bin Mohammed al Harthy, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, in the presence of senior officials, sports federation heads, club representatives, athletes and media.
The programme featured an opening speech by Hisham bin Juma al Sinani, Director-General of the Directorate General of Care and Development, who highlighted Oman’s sporting achievements in 2025.
Al Sinani noted that more than 357 athletes contributed to winning 316 medals and raising Oman’s flag in 22 international events. The ceremony included formal recognition segments for national teams, clubs and individuals, reflecting a strategic approach to motivating athletes and reinforcing a culture of excellence aligned with Oman Vision 2040.
The national beach soccer team was honoured for its remarkable achievements, including second place in the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup in Thailand and the Gulf Cup in Kuwait, alongside first place finishes in the West Asia Championship and the GCC Beach Games in Muscat.
The national handball team received recognition after securing first place in the 10th Asian Beach Handball Championship held in Muscat, as well as winning the GCC Beach Games title.
AHF TRIUMPH
The national hockey team was also honoured after winning the Asian Hockey Federation Cup in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Seeb Club volleyball team earned recognition for finishing third in the 43rd Arab Clubs Championship in Qatar, while the national volleyball team was honoured for multiple achievements, including titles in Arab and West Asia beach volleyball competitions.
The national basketball team was recognised for securing second place in the Arab U18 Championship and third place in the GCC U21 Championship, reflecting strong development at youth level.
Similarly, the national school sports team was honoured for achieving top positions in Arab and GCC school competitions in football and basketball.
In emerging and individual sports, the national e-sports team was recognised for finishing third in the Asian Youth Games and winning silver in the West Asia e-football championship.
The billiards and snooker team earned recognition for multiple regional and Arab medals, while the fencing, chess and ice sports teams were honoured for their achievements in various international competitions.
Further recognition was given to athletics, shooting, aquatic sports, golf, table tennis, tennis and cycling teams, all of which contributed to Oman’s medal tally through strong performances in regional and international championships.
The ceremony also honoured the Special Olympics Oman team for its participation in the World Winter Games in Italy, highlighting inclusivity and the broad development of sport in the Sultanate of Oman.
The ceremony concluded with the recognition of media institutions for their vital role in supporting and promoting Omani sports achievements, as well as their contribution to showcasing national successes and inspiring future generations.
