404 rescued and evacuated during rains

The Search and Rescue Sector of the National Committee for Emergency Management reported 44 sorties since the start of the weather event (Depression Al Masarat) until Saturday, including 38 for the Royal Oman Police Air Wing and 6 for the Royal Air Force of Oman, resulting in 58 rescue operations and 6 medical evacuations.The sector indicated that the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority responded to 254 reports, during which 404 people were rescued and evacuated. The committee affirmed its commitment to continuously monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of citizens and residents during the current weather conditions.The impact of the weather system Depression Al Masarat continued over the governorates of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Wusta and Dhofar on Saturday, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall and causing wadis to overflow.Hilal bin Salim al Hajri, Head of the Forecasting and Early Warning System Department at the Civil Aviation Authority, said, “The weather system began to gradually subside on Saturday morning in the governorates of Musandam, Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah. However, its effects will continue in the governorates of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Wusta and Dhofar until Sunday morning.”The sectors under the National Committee for Emergency Management continue their intensive efforts to handle the impacts of the low-pressure system Depression Al Masarat as part of their ongoing response aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens and residents and maintaining the continuity of essential services. In the Relief and Shelter Sector, a total of 533 people have been sheltered since the onset of the low-pressure system. Currently, nine shelters are operational across all governorates, housing 253 people.The Essential Services Sector reported that several roads were cut off in various governorates due to flash floods.
