Oman’s national beach handball team continues its intensive daily training sessions at the sand court of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher as part of its preparations for the 6th Asian Beach Games, scheduled to take place in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30.
The team is led by head coach Hamoud bin Salim al Hassani, assisted by Jaber bin Yaqoub al Balushi, with the coaching staff focusing on enhancing both the physical and technical readiness of the players through a comprehensive training programme tailored to the fast-paced and physically demanding nature of beach handball.
Training sessions include a range of specialised drills, including shooting from various angles, handling rebounds, and executing tactical plays designed to strengthen team cohesion on the court. Particular emphasis is also placed on quick transitions from defence to attack, a key factor in gaining a competitive edge during matches.
Following the official draw, Oman was placed in Group B alongside Pakistan, Jordan, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Thailand, Qatar and Mongolia, in what is considered a highly competitive group.
Oman will begin its campaign on April 21 with a morning match against Mongolia, before facing Qatar later the same day in a highly anticipated clash. The team will then take on Thailand on April 22, followed by matches against the Maldives on April 24 and Bangladesh on April 26. Oman will also face Jordan before concluding its preliminary round fixtures against Pakistan on April 27.
The team is aiming to deliver strong performances and achieve positive results that reflect the continued development of beach handball in Oman and reinforce its growing presence on the Asian stage. Meanwhile, Group A includes China, Iran, the Philippines, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka and Bahrain.
A total of 16 players are currently participating in the training camp: Yasser bin Saeed al Harthy, Saeed bin Hamad al Hassani, Nawaf bin Khalid al Hassani, Saud bin Nasser al Hassani, Azzan bin Najeeb al Maashari, Hamad bin Hamoud al Hassani, al Yazan bin Yahya al Busaidi (Muscat Club), Mahdi bin Salim al Sulaimani, Ali bin Salim al Jamii, Muhannad bin Saeed al Zarafi, Mohammed bin Abdulmajeed al Balushi (Seeb Club), Hudhaifa bin Suwaid al Siyabi, Bashar bin Yaqoub al Hinai, Saeed bin Issa al Hassani, Abdulhakim bin Abdullah al Siyabi (Oman Club), and Asaad bin Saeed al Hassani (Al Amerat Club).
