Weather conditions to persist with thunderstorms and hail

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has indicated that unstable weather conditions are expected to continue across several governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with forecasts pointing to ongoing thunderstorm activity accompanied by rainfall and hail.

According to the latest analysis from the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre, there remains a probability of heavy thundery rainfall on Wednesday night, with associated hailstorms and active downdraft winds due to convective cloud formations. The impact is expected to extend across North and South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah and Muscat, as well as parts of North and South Al Sharqiyah.

The forecast also suggests relatively calmer conditions on Thursday, although chances of scattered thundery rainfall will persist. Some of these showers may be accompanied by hail, particularly over Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah. Additional isolated rainfall is also expected over Muscat, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah and parts of Al Sharqiyah governorates and Dhofar.

Weather radar imagery issued on Thursday morning showed cloud clusters associated with rainfall and thunderstorms concentrated over parts of northern Oman, with varying intensities ranging from light to moderate precipitation.

Authorities have classified the overall impact level of the current weather system as low to moderate, while urging the public to follow official updates and exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to flash floods and hailstorms.
