Weather system to bring heavy rains today

MUSCAT: The latest weather maps and numerical forecasts issued by the National Emergency Management Centre at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), indicate that thundershowers and the effects of the weather system will continue on Wednesday over most of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Thundershowers associated with hail and strong winds will begin gradually in the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Batinah North and Musandam, and will later extend to the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Batinah South, Muscat, Al Sharqiyah North, Al Sharqiyah South and Al Wusta.
The National Early Warning Center has predicted heavy rainfall on Wednesday and warned against crossing running wadis and leaving children near water brooks. It also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until further notice.
The Meteorology Department said that rainfall will continue until Saturday evening, noting that some waves will carry less rain, and the atmosphere will be relatively calm, followed by heavy waves of rain until the beginning of next week.
The governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Batinah South, Al Batinah North, Muscat, and parts of the governorates of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Sharqiyah North and Dhofar, experienced thundershowers associated with hail on Tuesday. Rainfall amounts ranged from 30 to 100 mm, causing wadis to overflow.
The Wilayat of Bahla recorded the highest rainfall amount at 153 mm, followed by the Wilayat of Barka with 137 mm followed by the Wilayat of Baushar with 112 mm, during the period from March 20 to 24, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The Wilayat of Wadi Al Maawil recorded 111 mm, followed by the Wilayat of Al Musannah with 97 mm, and the Wilayat of Al Seeb with 96 mm.
The Wilayat of Bahla witnessed varying amounts of rainfall causing some wadis to the flow including Wadi Al Sinti, Wadi Al A’la, Wadi Al Kahafa, Wadi Saifam, Wadi Qaryat, Wadi Al Athal, and Wadi Sayh Al Maashi and a number of streams in different villages.
The Wilayat of Sinaw in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate witnessed rainfall of varying amounts leading to the flow of several wadis and streams in addition to the accumulation of water in some locations without recording any significant damage.
Rainfall of varying intensity was also reported in the wilayats of Al Rustaq, Barkah, Al Musannah, Al Awabi, Nakhal and Wadi Al Maawil in Al Batinah South Governorate.
The wilayats of Bukha, Khasab and Madha in Musandam Governorate experienced rainfall of varying intensities, leading to the flow of several wadis, including Wadi Al Khashkar and Wadi Al Hawra, and the filling of Al Sarouj Dam and Sahna Dam.
The Wilayat of Khasab witnessed heavy rainfall, causing wadis to overflow including Wadi Al Hajir, Wadi Al Wain, Wadi Rubiya, and Wadi Mahas. Meanwhile, the Niyabat of Lima experienced light to moderate and heavy rainfall.
The Wilayat of Bukha witnessed extremely heavy rains concentrated in the mountainous areas leading to the flow of several wadis and streams. The heavy rainfall was concentrated in the areas of Tibat, Ghamdha, Fadhfa and Al Jadi.
