Oman to host West Asian Volleyball Indoor and beach events in Muscat

MUSCAT: The Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) will host two major events this year including West Asian Volleyball Championship (Indoor) in July and West Asian Beach Volleyball Championship in December. Both events are scheduled in this year calendar as the national team (indoor) under the technical guidance of the Tunisian coach Nizar El Shukaili will eye to perform a top show in this event. The indoor event will take place during July 11 to 21 in Muscat while the beach tournament dates in December will be confirmed later.
Oman’s national volleyball team's last presence was in July as they had secured the bronze medal at the West Asia Men’s Volleyball Championship which was hosted in Bahrain in July last year. Oman team had managed to defeat Saudi Arabia 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 28-18, 25-22) in the third-place playoff. During the event, Oman had played six matches including three in the group stage. The team recorded a victory over Kuwait but suffered defeats against Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Oman had advanced to the quarterfinals where they had defeated UAE to reach the semifinals. In the last four, they had faced Qatar once again but suffered a loss and then set up a rematch against Saudi Arabia in the playoff for third place. The championship had featured the participation of eight teams of the West Asia Volleyball Federation. The teams were divided into two groups: Group A included Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates, while Group B comprised Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Oman team will have another two essential assignment ahead of the West Asian events as they will take part in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men’s Cup 2026 which will be hosted in Ahmedabad, India, from June 20–28, 2026. Oman Men team will vie in this prestigious event beside Australia, Bahrain, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, New Zealand, Pakistan, Qatar, Chinese Taipei and Thailand, alongside the host nation India bringing together established contenders and emerging teams from across the continent.
This tournament will form a key part of the AVC’s 2026 international calendar and is expected to deliver high-level competition, while providing valuable opportunities for national teams to compete on the continental stage. Also, the AVC send a confirmation letter to Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) for Oman’s team participation in the AVC Volleyball Men’s Continental Championship which will take place in Fukuaka, Japan from September 4 to 13. The confirmed teams till now to take part in this Asian championship are: Japan as the hosts, Iran, Qatar, South Korea, China, Australia, India, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Thailand and Oman.
