MUSCAT: As Omanis and residents prepare for the Eid holidays, the weather is getting warmer but still suitable for outdoor celebrations. However, it is the ongoing regional war that is subtly influencing how people plan their break.
With tensions leading to caution around international travel, families are choosing to stay within the country, shifting their plans towards local destinations.
Oman's landmarks are likely to draw interest, offering accessible and familiar getaways without the uncertainty of travelling abroad.
Beaches, parks and mountain areas are expected to see an increase in visitors, as families take advantage of the pleasant conditions for picnics, walks and outdoor gatherings.
Evenings, in particular, are expected to be lively, with waterfronts and cafes filling up as people extend their celebrations beyond the home. Tourism operators note that this changing trend is giving a noticeable boost to domestic travel.
With the likelihood of foreign tourists not coming in, hotels have introduced promotions and lowered rates to attract domestic travellers. Officials and tourism stakeholders see this shift as an opportunity to strengthen the domestic travel sector.
By keeping holiday spending within the country, Eid is expected to provide a timely boost to local businesses, including hospitality, transport, retail and food services.
Despite the challenging regional situation, the holiday spirit remains strong. For many Omanis, this Eid is not just about celebration but also about rediscovering the diverse offerings of their country, supporting the national economy while enjoying a safer, more convenient holiday close to home.
In this context, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism recently launched a campaign to enable governorates in Oman to host a series of cultural and entertainment events during the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holiday.
The activities and events of the campaign will include folklore shows, theatrical performances, competitions, and offerings from popular food stalls and handicraft outlets.
The campaign aims to stimulate the national economy and increase demand for tourist destinations in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. It is designed to cater to the interests of different segments of society, encouraging families to visit historical sites, cultural destinations and shopping centres. It also aims to allow adventure enthusiasts to engage in mountain climbing, camping, cave and valley exploration, and maritime trips.
