Muscat: Al Nasr continued their positive run of results with an important 2-1 victory over Al Shabab in the match held at Al Saada Sports Complex as part of Round 18 of the Jindal League, underlining their strong push in the race for the top positions.
Both teams entered the match determined to collect all three points, and Al Nasr made the quicker start, applying high pressure from the opening minutes. They almost opened the scoring as early as the second minute when captain Fahad Adel won the ball from Al Shabab’s defence and passed to Awad al Shahri, whose powerful effort went wide, wasting an early chance.
Al Shabab responded in the 16th minute through their Ethiopian professional Kenean Markine, who threatened the Al Nasr goal, but goalkeeper Ibrahim al Rajhi produced a fine save.
Al Shabab took the lead in the 20th minute through Hatim al Rawshdi, who met a headed pass from his teammate Yassine Saindou and fired a left-footed shot from inside the penalty area into the net. After conceding, the home side pushed forward in search of an equaliser and gradually took control, with Abdulfadel Swanon levelling for Al Nasr in the 31st minute with a perfect header that found the back of the net.
In the second half, Al Shabab looked the better side for long periods as they searched for a second goal. Their best chance came in the 63rd minute when Kenean broke through on goal, but Ibrahim al Rajhi timed his advance well and made a crucial stop to keep Al Nasr in the contest.
As the match appeared to be heading towards a draw, Al Nasr struck the winner in the 84th minute through Beni Mogbaya. The goal came after a well-worked move led by Hussain al Shahri, who beat his markers and delivered a precise pass into the box for Mogbaya to finish from close range.
With this result, Al Nasr moved up to 39 points in third place, continuing their climb towards the top, while Al Shabab remained on 41 points in second. The outcome also strengthened Seeb’s chances of widening the gap at the top and moving closer to the title.
