Muscat Municipality expands EV charging network

MUSCAT: Muscat Municipality has expanded the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the governorate, with new installations at several locations, including Al Khuwair Square and the Green Walkway in the Wilayat of Al Seeb.
The municipality said the move forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure for electric vehicles and encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
According to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, 160 EV charging points were installed across Oman in 2025, with plans to add 200 more charging points in 2026.
Data from the Green Mobility website shows that the Sultanate of Oman currently has around 2,200 electric vehicles supported by 160 charging stations nationwide. These include 49 in Muscat, 12 in Dhofar, 10 in Al Batinah North, eight in Al Dakhiliyah and four in Al Wusta.
The ministry aims to further expand the network to 350 charging stations by 2027, supporting the country’s transition towards sustainable and low-emission transport.
