Oman Logistics Academy crowned Koorathon tourney

MUSCAT: Oman Logistics Academy (Team A) were crowned champions of the inaugural Koorathon Championship for Higher Education Institutions 2026 after defeating University of Nizwa 4-2 in the final held on Sunday evening at Goal One Stadium in Muscat.
The final match was held under the auspices of Hussein bin Mohammed al Lawati, Member of Majlis Ash’shura representing Muttrah, and in the presence of Dr Mansoor bin Mahfoodh al Qasimi, CEO of the Oman Logistics Academy.
The match delivered an exciting and competitive contest as both teams displayed strong attacking intent from the opening minutes. Oman Logistics Academy opened the scoring early in the game before University of Nizwa quickly responded with an equaliser.

The academy regained the lead after capitalising on a mistake by the University of Nizwa goalkeeper to score the second goal before adding a third shortly afterwards to end the first half with a 3-1 advantage.
University of Nizwa entered the second half with strong attacking pressure in an attempt to reduce the deficit, but Oman Logistics Academy struck again with a fourth goal to extend the lead to 4-1.
Despite the setback, University of Nizwa continued their efforts and managed to score a second goal, but time ran out before they could mount a full comeback as the academy secured a 4-2 victory to lift the title.

The goals for Oman Logistics Academy were scored by Irfan al Salmi, Ali al Balushi, Majid al Wahaibi and Laith al Tuwaigri, while Nasr al Rawahi and Ali Moosa scored for University of Nizwa.
At the conclusion of the tournament, the patron honoured the winning team with the championship trophy and gold medals, while University of Nizwa received the runners-up award. International College of Engineering and Management secured third place and Sultan Qaboos University finished fourth.
Individual awards were also presented, with Hudhaifa al Maamari from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences winning the top scorer award with five goals. Ali bin Moosa al Balushi from University of Nizwa was named the best player of the tournament, while Warith al Raqadi from Oman Logistics Academy received the best goalkeeper award.
