Airport traffic in Oman rises 8.8 per cent in January

MUSCAT: Passenger traffic through the Sultanate of Oman’s airports grew by 8.8 per cent by the end of January 2026, reaching 1,452,911 passengers compared with 1,334,825 during the same period in 2025, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
International flights across the country’s airports totalled 8,032 by the end of January, marking a 2.7 per cent increase from 7,820 flights a year earlier. At Muscat International Airport, international flights reached 7,594, up 2.5 per cent from 7,410 flights in January 2025. Passenger numbers on these flights rose 7.2 per cent to 1,189,938, compared with 1,109,650 a year earlier.
Domestic flights through Muscat International Airport reached 773 during the same period, while the number of domestic passengers increased to 107,423 from 93,895, representing growth of 14.4 per cent.
Salalah Airport also recorded strong growth, with total international and domestic flights rising 11.4 per cent to 916 flights, compared with 822 flights in January 2025. Passenger numbers increased by 19.2 per cent to 150,785, up from 126,506. International flights at Salalah reached 428, while domestic flights totalled 488.
Suhar Airport handled 18 international and domestic flights by the end of January, compared with 10 flights during the same period last year, representing an 80 per cent increase.
At Duqm Airport, domestic flights totalled 52 by the end of January, while passenger numbers declined slightly by 0.5 per cent to 4,749, compared with 4,774 during the same period in 2025.
Data also showed that Omani nationals accounted for the largest share of passenger traffic at Muscat International Airport during January 2026, with 195,657 passengers, including 98,339 arrivals and 97,318 departures. Indian nationals ranked second with 187,904 passengers, followed by Pakistani nationals with 48,546 passengers. — ONA
