Projects worth RO 31 million underway at Jabal Shams

AL HAMRA: Jabal Shams in the Wilayat of Al Hamra, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, is undergoing active development that includes the implementation of a number of strategic projects worth more than RO 31 million. This reflects the great attention accorded to Jabal Shams, which is the Sultanate of Oman’s highest mountain peak.
The implementation of the projects is part of an integrated masterplan to develop the infrastructure and tourism services of Jabal Shams. This will enhance the position of Jabal Shams as a leading tourist destination. The plan seeks to keep pace with growing interest in mountain tourism in the Sultanate of Oman.
The projects include the construction of Jabal Shams Front to the tune of approximately RO 11 million. The facade, which is being built on an area of ​​ 145,000 square metres, is envisaged to become an integrated tourist destination that comprises recreational and cultural facilities, including a glass walkway overlooking the canyon, an open-air theatre and a cultural garden.
The project is expected to generate annual revenues of RO 1.26 million, in addition to the generation of 309 employment opportunities and 32 investment opportunities in the tourism and services sectors.
The projects also include the construction of 32-km road at a cost of RO 20.2 million, to ease access to tourist sites. A total of 172 lighting poles will also be installed along a 10-km stretch to enhance traffic safety. — ONA
