Fish landings reach RO 481m, up 4.9pc from last year

MUSCAT: The total value of fish landed across Oman’s artisanal, coastal, and commercial fishing sectors reached approximately RO 481 million by the end of November 2025, marking a 4.9-per cent increase compared to RO 458 million in the same period of 2024, according to preliminary data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The total quantity of fish landed rose to 723,011 tonnes, up 4.6 per cent from 691,276 tonnes in 2024. Artisanal fishing contributed 641,836 tonnes, a 3.1-per cent increase from the previous year.
By governorate, Al Wusta led artisanal landings with 220,813 tonnes, followed by Al Sharqiyah South (196,652 tonnes), Al Batinah North and Al Batinah South (77,288 tonnes combined), Dhofar (65,510 tonnes), Musandam (47,059 tonnes) and Muscat (34,514 tonnes).
Commercial fishing saw a significant 20.4 per cent rise to 73,614 tonnes, while coastal fishing increased slightly by 1 per cent to 7,561 tonnes.
In terms of species, small surface fish dominated artisanal catches with 326,792 tonnes, followed by large surface fish at 194,377 tonnes and demersal fish at 93,162 tonnes. Sharks accounted for 6,752 tonnes, crustaceans and mollusks 10,612 tonnes and other unclassified species 10,143 tonnes. - ONA
