Special Ramadhan Iftar for elderly set for March 12 in Muscat

The event is being organised under Marriott International’s global initiative Serve 360 and aims to honour senior members of the community

MUSCAT: While the city is abuzz with numerous corporate, community and mass Iftar gatherings during the holy month of Ramadhan, one initiative stands out for its thoughtful focus — an Iftar dedicated to honouring the elderly.

Sheraton Oman Hotel, in association with Ihsaan Association, a non-profit voluntary organisation specialising in the care and support of senior citizens, is hosting a special Iftar aimed at celebrating and recognising the elderly members of society.
The initiative seeks to bring senior citizens to the forefront and make them feel valued and included within the community.
According to statistics, Oman’s elderly population stood at approximately 228,981 in 2025 and is projected to rise to around 385,395 by 2040, with the government continuing to expand and diversify elderly care services to meet growing needs.
The event, organised under Marriott International’s global initiative Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction, aims to honour senior members of the community by offering them an evening of connection, care and Ramadhan spirit. The gathering will take place on March 12 at the Sheraton Oman Hotel.
“Through this first-of-its-kind initiative, we believe this meaningful event will be of great public interest, especially during the holy month,” said Rejin Thomas, Hotel Manager, Sheraton Oman Hotel.
“For this event, we have partnered with Ihsaan Association, an organisation dedicated to supporting and caring for elderly members of the community in Oman. The evening aims to provide senior guests with a warm and welcoming Ramadhan experience, allowing them to enjoy a meaningful gathering, traditional Iftar, and social interaction in a comfortable setting,” he added.
At a time when global events can create concern and anxiety for many people — particularly senior members of the community — the gathering also seeks to provide a moment of comfort, connection and positivity.
Around 50 to 60 elderly male and female guests from Ihsaan Association are expected to attend the event, accompanied by volunteers and Sheraton Oman team members. The guests will be hosted in the hotel’s ballroom, where a special Iftar buffet will be arranged.
In addition to the meal, the evening will include interactions between volunteers, hotel associates, and guests, creating opportunities for conversation, companionship, and community engagement.
The special Ramadhan gathering reflects Sheraton Oman Hotel’s continued commitment to giving back to the community through initiatives under the Serve 360 platform.
